Basket willow at Persephone
How a joy in basketweaving is fostering a growing willow patch at the edge of the market garden.

Many years ago, Kristine made baskets and in 2005 she spent a month interning with a master basketmaker in Germany.
It wasn’t until the spring of 2021 that we planted the first basket willows along the edge of the market garden. Each spring since then, we have added plantings. We now have 11 beds of willow and 16 different varieties.
So far we have used the willow ourselves for small practical and creative projects on the farm.
We are experimenting with different types of projects (baskets, landscape installations, living willow structures) to get to know our varieties and practice various techniques.
In 2027, we hope to have willow available for sale.
